DROP-IN CENTER

Welcome to The Ground Floor: Supporting Youth Experiencing Homelessness

The Ground Floor serves as a vital drop-in engagement center catering to youth aged 13-24 who may be experiencing homelessness or need support. Here, individuals can access essential items like food, clothing, and hygiene supplies, as well as harm reduction tools such as Narcan and fentanyl test strips. Additionally, critical supplies like backpacks, tents, and sleeping bags are provided.

About The Ground Floor

A day-use center for youth ages 24 and under experiencing homelessness. At the Ground Floor youth can connect with supportive adults, receive basic needs items such as food, clothing and gear for sleeping outside and connect with other resources that will help them end their experience of homelessness.

The Ground Floor opened in early 2019 as the community's first dedicated space for unhoused youth. This project would not have been possible without the dedication of the membership of the First Congregational Church of Bellingham, who dedicated their space, time and treasures to completing this secular space.

Our Supportive Environment

Staffed with care coordinators, enrollment managers, and employment and education specialists, the Ground Floor offers a supportive environment where youth can complete paperwork for housing interest pools and other interagency programs.

Since its establishment in early 2019, thanks to the generous support of the First Congregational Church of Bellingham, the Ground Floor has become a beacon for unhoused youth. Key activities include providing basic needs and harm reduction supplies, enrolling youth in housing interest pools, offering navigation support for community resources, and assistance with education or employment.

Community-Building and Support

The Ground Floor also hosts various services, including DSHS outpost stations and free civil legal consultations, while fostering community-building through games, outings, and art hive sessions. One success story highlights the journey of a young adult who, after finding himself homeless, utilized the Ground Floor's resources to secure employment and eventually transition into stable housing.
